A Deputy Marshal Killed and His Slayer Promptly Done For

Marietta, I.T., Nov. 3 – In a shooting scrape which occurred on the northbound passenger train between here and Gainesville about 10:45 tonight, Deputy Marshal Y.C. Smith[sic/Tom Smith?] was shot and killed by a negro and the negro was shot and killed by another marshal. Some kind of falling out between Marshal Smith and the Negro was the cause of the trouble. Both dead men were taken to Ardmore.
