George Cheek

Retired peace officer George A. Cheek, 75, of Sallisaw died in January.  He was a native of Sequoyah County where he is born October 21, 1891.

            He served as sheriff of Sequoyah County for two terms and during the forties was a member of the campus police at Oklahoma State University.  He also served as a guard at Oklahoma State Penitentiary at McAlester.

            Survivors include three sons, J. B. Of Mannford, George, Jr., of Oklahoma City and Clayton of Fairborn, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Taylor of Stillwater and Mrs. Cleo Bogart of Borger, Texas; a brother, Beaut, of Sallisaw; five sisters, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

            A pioneer Tillman County peace office died recently in a Frederick hospital after being ill for a month.  Arthur Ervin McAfee was 74 years old at the time of his death.

            A native of Texas, McAfee had moved to Tillman County in 19091.  He served with sheriff's office for a number of years.  He was also a member of the Oklahoma Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association.

            Survivors include his wife, Susie: a daughter, Mrs. Opal Carder of Altus and a sister, Mrs. Maude Cole of Houston, Texas.
