PIONEER PEACE OFFICER IS DEAD
John Cansdell Aided In Extermination of Dalton Gang
October 5, 1928—Lawton Constitution—Nowata—John Cansdell, pioneer peace officer, song writer and poet, died here today.
His death after an illness of years occurred on the 26th anniversary of the day he assisted citizens of Coffeyville, Kansas in practically exterminating the Dalton gang of bank robbers.
Cansdell has served as a deputy U. S. Marshal, Nowata chief of police and as a deputy sheriff.
